Colorado’s 2012 Taxpayer Champions

CUT releases its 2012 CUT Rates the Legislature Scorecard detailing legislator’s votes on the thirty-one bills to be included in the 2012 Ratings publication.    (See the attached listings).  Retiring Senator Shawn Mitchell and retiring Representative Don Beezley both representing Broomfield earn CUT Taxpayer Champion designations!  Senator Mitchell scored 90%; Representative Beezley 96%.  Retiring Senator Timothy Neville, Littleton, and Representative Randy Baumgardner, Hot Sulfur Springs, earn CUT Taxpayer Guardian status.  Senator Neville came in at 89% and Representative Baumgardner 93%.

The Colorado Union of Taxpayers presented each Chamber during the session eighteen position reports covering 96 bills. Of these bills, thirty-one were selected.   To be included in our Ratings, bills must be voted by one full Chamber and either Committee or full House/Senate vote of the other Chamber.

CUT gives the 2012 Legislature an F.  Passing the largest budget, $20+ Billion, in the history of Colorado is disheartening while Colorado citizens are reeling from a depressed economy and their incomes have not kept pace with such increases.  As citizens must tighten their belts, they ask “Where are the spending cuts for government?”   On the contrary, the Legislature failed to pass HB1075 which would have restored the 6% spending limit and established a “rainy day” fund.

The CUT Ratings, which will be released June 29, 2012, will provide an explanation of each bill and the rationale for CUT’s position.  The 2012 Ratings will be available free on CUT’s website, www.coloradotaxpayer.org.

Founded in 1976, the Colorado Union of Taxpayers is our state’s
long-serving advocate for taxpayers.
